A Legacy of Hope and Help

Founded in 2013, Trish’s Angels was created to honor the life and legacy of Trish Hoyt, a loving wife, mother, friend and animal-lover, who died in 2012 following a courageous battle against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The primary goal of the Trish’s Angels organization is to raise funds to provide financial assistance to patients currently dealing with ALS, a notoriously expensive and physically debilitating disease. Patients will benefit from funds raised via events sponsored by Trish’s Angels, as well as donations by corporations or private individuals.

About ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)

More commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, ALS is a neurodegenerative disease with no known cure or cause. The disease causes gradual or rapid destruction of motor neurons, which are critically important to brain and spinal cord function because they transmit messages throughout the body. When motor neurons are unable to function, this causes ALS patients to gradually lose function of their arms, legs and other basic bodily roles that require muscle control, such as swallowing. Motor neuron death completely inhibits the brain’s ability to transmit messages, causing complete immobility. As the disease ramps up in intensity, so do the bills, since basic insurance often covers only a woeful portion of medications, equipment and home care costs.
